We report the case of a 44-year-old woman who presented with a 4 cm mass in her left breast. The mass had been present for approximately 6 months. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) was performed, and the specimen was interpreted as a benign lesion. Core biopsy was performed, and the specimen was interpreted as invasive ductal carcinoma. The patient underwent a left simple mastectomy. The final histopathologic examination of the surgical specimen revealed micropapillary breast carcinoma. This case illustrates the use of FNA in the diagnosis of breast carcinoma and the lack of expertise in distinguishing between various types of breast carcinoma. It also documents the lack of knowledge of this variant of breast carcinoma.Cantharidus australis
